Preparations

Preparing can be busy. Waiting can be busy.

If you haven’t seen the post on our Instagram yet:

Step 1. Go check it out. I have an awesome human being running the account and she has some great Tuesday truths that we’d love to pour into you each week!

Step 2. Make sure to subscribe to our Instagram account! We’d love to connect with you in any way possible and to even get feedback on what truths you would like to hear or have heard.

Step 3. Check out this week’s truth as we dive into this post.

Earlier, I wrote a post about waiting. I talked about how waiting doesn’t mean sitting around and waiting for a random guy to offer you the perfect job or wait for a certain date because that’s when things will suddenly get easier. Being in the wait is about doing your part then waiting on God to do His.

There are still some things that I’m waiting on like when I will get a new job or when my acne will stop flaring up, but I’ve found out something new about waiting. For myself, waiting and preparing can go hand in hand. If you haven’t seen the Insta post yet, I have some big news and a reason as to why I haven’t posted in a while. Well, two reasons actually, but we’ll get back to that later.

So, the big news...I’m engaged!! On December 6th, 2019, Joshua took myself, his brother, and brother’s girlfriend to the zoo to walk around and look at Christmas lights. Once we reached this giant lite-up ornament, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him—EEP!

How exciting it was to be able to look at my best friend and say yes to spending the rest of our lives together. What a forever changing moment!

This would be the first reason I haven’t been able to produce a post.

I’m not a procrastinator so I went hard core at the whole wedding planning thing and bless my fiancé for just rolling right along with me. This is not to brag, but we figured out the date, the venue, the photographer (for wedding and engagement photos), the videographer, the DJ, my dress, the bridesmaids dresses, the hair and makeup, the bridal party (including the cute little ring bearer and flower girl), some decorations, and the tuxes. There’s also some more that we’ve figured out, just little things, but I’ll spare you the even longer list to explain all that. So, as you can see, I do not like to procrastinate.

Preparing can be busy. Whether you get things done 9 months in advance, or you like to live life on the edge and wait until last minute to get things done.

The second reason I haven't posted in a while is that it was hard for me to post when I saw the results of each blog I wrote. Only a number people viewed the post (not sure if they even read it or not) and of that number, even fewer liked it. I have to say, I definitely fell into society's approach of sharing info and based it off how many people liked it. Kayla (the one who runs our Instagram account) asked me when I was going to post next, and I told her that I didn't know. It was difficult to want to write something when not many people saw it and even fewer agreed on the content enough to just click the tiny heart.

Kayla texted me back saying that it is difficult, but I shouldn't give up in something I love. I do love to write, she wasn't wrong there. I just had to realize that no matter how many people see or how many people like it, I have to keep going and I have to prepare myself for what God is going to do with this.

The major thing that I’ve learned about preparing is that yes, it can be busy, but it can also feel like it takes forever when you’re also in the waiting. I love planning our wedding, but we are still eight months out and oh man, is it difficult to wait for the day when we get to say I do. It’s so hard to say goodbye at night, especially when I’m reminded that we still have to do it about 227 more times. A more comforting thing I've learned about preparing is that it's perseverance. We may feel like we've hit a dead end or like there is nothing more we can do, but we have to choose to keep going.

I wrote about being in a season of waiting and how it doesn’t mean we just sit around and do nothing rather than getting up and doing something until God gives us our next step. Start preparing—start getting ready for the next step God is going to put in your life. Decorate your soul and set up meetings with just you and God so He can prepare your heart for what you’re going to receive. Get up and get busy. Keep going until you know, with a clear mind, that God has presented your next move.
